Talk on Challenges of Child-Rearing in Manila Doctors Pediatrics Convention
By: Bless de Asis
Last July 1-3, 2015, the Manila Doctors Hospital, Department of Pediatrics held their 7th annual scientific forum, entitled School Health and Beyond. That Friday, July 3, MLAC Institute for Psychosocial Service, Inc. team member Bless de Asis gave a talk on Letting Children be Children: The Challenges of Childrearing Today. Around 200 participants, most of them doctors and alumni from the hospital and nearby hospitals in Manila, attended the conference.

Bless discussed and provided insights on the challenges of parenting in the fast-paced modern society where children are tasked and exposed to more responsibilities at an early age. She also enlightened the audience to look at parenting in a different light: that parenting is also understanding their inner selves. Through the talk they were encouraged to find the balance between doing things for their children and seeing the importance of simply being with them as they enjoy their childhood. She also highlighted the importance of the play as well as the role of mindfulness, as effective ways to nurture both themselves as parents and their children.
